Click Here to view Memorial Video Summerfield- Helen Johnston Tickle, 82, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Moses Cone Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January19, 2014 at Maple Lawn Baptist Church with Rev. Crawford Bradshaw officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Helen was born in Alexander County to the late James Arthur and Letha Mae Parker Johnston. She was a retiree of Lorillard Tobacco Company and a member of Maple Lawn Baptist Church. She devoted her life to taking care of others and loved spending time with her family especially her great granddaughters. . In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas “Garland” Tickle; brothers, Calvin, Harold and Clyde Johnston. Survivors include her daughters, Dianne Alsterberg and Penny Friddle both of Summerfield; grandchildren, Stephanie Rothe and husband, Rob, Kyle Friddle and wife, Angela; great grandchildren, Presley and Collins Rothe, Kayden and Kyleigh Friddle; brother, Dwight Johnston; sisters, Ruth Cummings of Reidsville, Mary Wike and Gladys Inman both of Taylorsville and Shirley Roberts and husband, Wayne of Hiddenite and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 18th from 6 – 8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
