Henry was born in Rockingham County to the late Henry Jackson Evans Sr. and Viola Poindexter Evans. He retired from the Reidsville Police Department as a Master Police officer after 45 years of service. After a short retirement, he returned to the community and job that he loved as a downtown officer and later as the Lake Reidsville Park Ranger. Henry was known as a hard worker and had the reputation as one who always enforced the law, no matter who was the guilty party. Henry once told his wife, “If you break the law, I will give you a ticket too!” During his tenure as a police officer, Henry had several nicknames. One of his nicknames was “handyman”; and the one he loved most was “Bulldog”. He loved helping people and loved serving his community. There was no greater servant among this Reidsville community than Henry “Bulldog” Evans. He will be greatly missed.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his son Henry Jackson Evans III; sisters, Sara Davis and Brenda Tucker.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth Ann Evans; children, Teresa Evans and Mike Perdue (Diana); 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Janice Murray (Joe) and a large extended family.
