Mayfield: Herbert Frank Hanks, 73, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Annie Penn Hospital.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 18, 3:00 PM at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, 9983 NC Hwy 700, Pelham, NC and the burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Herbert was born August 29, 1943 to the late Hollis Benny and Pearl Mae Martin Hanks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only brother, Benny Michael Hanks and nephew, Stephen Shane Meeks. Herbert is survived by his only sister, Hilda Marie and her husband, Olin J. Meeks, their children, Melanie Lynn and Eddie A. Meeks as well as his sister-in-law, Debbie Hanks and her daughter, Michelle.
Herbert graduated from Ruffin High School, Class of 1961, after which he spent four years in the US Air Force as an electronic specialist. He then worked for Womack Electric Supply in Danville, VA for 26 years. Knowing that Herbert had great knowledge of all things electronic, the Danville School System encouraged him to come to work for them, which he did. He worked for the school system for more than twenty years and retired in June of 2015.
Herbert was the type of person who would do anything for anybody at any time. In addition to helping friends and relatives with their electronic problems such as TV’s, telephones, computers, microwaves, etc., he was an expert woodworker and cabinet maker.
