Reidsville - Hilda Comer Allen, 85, of 974 Grooms Road, passed away at her home Monday, September 5, 2011.A funeral service will be held at Eastside Baptist Church Thursday, September 8, 2011 at 11:00AM with Rev. Gene Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memory GardensHilda was born in Rockingham County to the late Jess and Zillie Lee Sharp Comer. She was a faithful member of East Side Baptist Church where she was president of the Ladies #1 Sunday School Class, chairman of Morning Meeting of WMU, member of the flower committee and also devotional leader of Westwood Rockingham County Co-OP Extension Volunteers. She retired from Lorillard Corporation after 30 years of service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence Comer, Paul Comer, Jessie Comer, Lennious Comer, John Comer, Charlie Comer, Shelton Comer and Thomas Comer; sister, Ruby C. Brown.She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Everette O. Allen; son, Kenneth O. Allen and wife, Billie Jo of Brown Summit; daughter, Betsy A. Carter and husband, Rev. D. Frank Carter of Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren, Stephanie C. Hewitt of Portsmouth, VA, Brandon L. Allen of Summerfield, NC, Michael C. Allen of Brown Summit; great grandchildren, J. Payton Hewitt and Ethan Hewitt both of Portsmouth, VA.; brother, Jack O. Comer of Martinsville, VA; sister, Gracie C. Lasley of Reidsville.The family will receive friends at Eastside Baptist Church from 7:00 to 8:30PM Wednesday, September 7, 2011 and other times at the residence.
