Reidsville – Howard Stacy Key, Sr., 96, of 7929 NC Hwy 150 East, died Monday, June 1, 2009, at his home.Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, June 4, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Randall Shaw and Rev. Steve Hinton officiating with the interment following in Osceola Baptist Church Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Josh Rumley, Colt Rumley, Nick Welborn, Ryan Welborn, Randy Key and Wes Gilley.Mr. Key was born in Surry County to the late Gilmer and Lula Brendle Key. He was a retired tobacco farmer and a longtime and faithful member of Osceola Baptist Church. He was an avid sportsman, especially coon and rabbit hunting. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his son Roger Glenn Key and five brothers and sisters.He is survived by his wife of over 72 years, Lou Ellen Brooks Key of the home; children, Howard “H.S.” Key, Jr. and wife, Sandra, Becky Key Haithcock, Tom Key, Janice Key Gilley and husband, Marshall all of Browns Summit, Sandra Key Apple and husband, Ronnie of Elon, James Key and Ricky Key both of Browns Summit; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; 1 step grandson; 2 step great grandchildren; sister, Pauline Brown of Burlington; and numerous nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 3rd from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and other times at the residence.In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to Osceola Baptist Church, C/O Brenda Brown, 5992 Poley Road, Browns Summit, NC 27214 Or Hospice of Alamance County, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the loving care provided by Hospice of Alamance County.
