Greensboro – Hoyt Donald Lee, 82, of 7007 Spencer Dixon Road, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2010 at the Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, MO.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Gethsemane United Methodist Church with Rev. Roy Ward officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites performed by the Rockingham County Honor Guard and the National Guard.
Mr. Lee was born in Guilford County to the late Horace and Olene Price Lee. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during WWII. He retired from the US Postal Service after 20 years of service. He was a lifetime and faithful member of Gethsemane United Methodist Church. Mr. Lee was an accomplished musician and made music every Tuesday evening with his son, Ed and close friend, Bud Easley. He was a gifted craftsman and finished carpenter. He loved gardening and animals. He always had a pet at home. Mr. Lee was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was patient and kind and a friend to all. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Carolyn Chapman Lee; his sister, Doris Potts; and his brothers, Glenn, Jerry and Bickett Lee.
Mr. Lee is survived by his wife, Betty Warmington Lee of the home; his children, Edward Lee and wife, Becky of Reidsville, Carol Smith and husband, Ron of Burlington, Amanda Dixon and husband, David and Sheryl Pate all of Reidsville; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brother, Max Dale Lee and wife, Lavonne of Greensboro and a large extended family.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 15 from 6-8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at his residence.
