Hubert "Herb" Wayne Caudill

Hubert “Herb” Wayne Caudill, 90, of Stokesdale, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 12, 2023 with his family.

Herb was born in Letcher County, Kentucky, to the late Virgie Caudill. He served in the US Air Force for 33 years in both active duty and civil service specializing in Billeting and Inventory Management. Herb was deployed in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was a Life Member of VFW Post 8297, serving in leadership roles. Herb was also a Life Member of The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, as well as a Past Exalted Ruler of Woodland Elks 1299. Most recently, Herb spent his time volunteering at Fairgrove United Methodist Church, in several leadership roles, where he most enjoyed organizing Fish-Fry Dinners, Hot Dog Suppers and Pancake Breakfasts.

Herb’s greatest love was his family, particularly his 2 grandsons and he took great pride in them, and the young men they have become. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home, camping and especially fishing with his friends.

Along with his mother, he is preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, LaVerne Caudill; late wife, Ann Alfrey; sister, Evadean Marcum; brother-in-law, Lafe Marcum; brothers, Bill Ison, Tom Hogg, and Ronnie Hogg along with his sister-in-law, Jean Ison.

Herb is survived by his children, Cheryl Caudill De Gano and husband, John; Mary Caudill Kreins and husband, Eric; Wayne “Loch” Caudill and wife, Terrie; grandsons, Nicholas and Alexander Kreins; sisters, Ann Calihan and husband, Johnny; as well as Lavonne Halburnt and husband, John; and several nieces and nephews as well as a large and loving group of extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Fairgrove United Methodist Church in Reidsville, North Carolina, officiated by Rev. Matthew Johnson. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 16, 2023, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Reidsville, North Carolina. Internment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
