Reidsville – Hugh M. “Hugh Baby” Carter, 72, of 1169 Smothers Road, died, Monday, July 5, 2010 at the Hospice Home of Rockingham County.Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Rudy Woods officiating. The burial will follow in the Pleasantville Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Carter was born in Rockingham County, NC and was the son of the late Jacob and Sally Rickman Carter. He retired from Equity Meats and was a member of the Oasis Baptist Church. He was a committed man of faith. Mr. Carter was an avid sportsman and was a “Jack of All trades”. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Hugh Kyle Carter and his sisters, Ailene Carter, Gracie Snyder, Mable Trent and Polly Farley.Mr. Carter is survived by his daughter, Patricia Carter Gentry of the home; granddaughters, Jessica Gentry and Heidi Blackstock both of Eden, NC; great grandchildren, Alexis Guerra, Alaina Pruitt, Nakiah, Valencia and Ciara Blackstock; brothers, Bill Carter of Eden, NC, Ruben Carter of Madison, NC, Walter Carter of Madison, NC, Tyree Carter and wife, Bonnie of Holden Beach, NC and Harvey Jackson and wife, Adelaide of Salisbury, NC; sisters, Emma Amos of Madison, NC, Sarah Carter, Nannie Lindsey and husband, Jack and Bettie Hubbard and husband, Frank all of Reidsville; 15 nieces; 17 nephews; special friend, Shirley Lewis; and long time friends John Henry Shelton and Charles Cooke of over 40 years.The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 6, at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 7:00 – 9:00 PM. They will also receive friends at home during other times.Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Home of Rockingham County, PO Box 281 Wentworth, NC 27375.
