Reidsville: Hugh W. Pruitt, 87, of 388 Brooks Road, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2010 at Annie Penn Hospital.There will be a memorial service on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Tillman officiating. Military rites will be performed by the Rockingham County Honor Guard and National Guard after the service.Mr. Pruitt was born to the late Carrie Chaney Pruitt and John Pruitt of Reidsville. He was a retiree of P. Lorillard and served with the U. S. Army, first wave, Normandy invasion and received the purple heart. Hugh was of the Baptist faith. In his younger years, he was a devoted hunter and a member of the Big J. Hunting Club in Jackson, NC. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Luther (Pop) Pruitt and a sister, Inez Bray. Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Bolden; sons, Dewey Pruitt and wife, Susan, Hugh Pruitt, Jr. and wife, Patsy; grandchildren; Ashley Pruitt, Bobby Smith, Jr., Melody Hayes, Cameron Richardson; great-grandchildren, Chelsie Pruitt, Chandler Pruitt, Wesley and Zachary Smith, Mason Haynes, Cooper and Grey Richardson; one great-great-grandson, Damien Smith; brother, David Pruitt and wife, Josephine and many special nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the home of his son, Dewey Pruitt, 2466 Iron Works Road.
