Reidsville: Jack Lee Phillips, 88, of 1837 Flat Rock Road went home to be with The Lord on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Heath Lloyd officiating. The burial will follow at Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 PM Saturday, February 24th at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Jack was a native of Kimesville, NC and the son of the late Harvey Lee and Edna Coley Phillips. He graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College before joining the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, he attended Appalachian State Teacher’s College where he received his Master’s degree in Education. Jack was lifetime educator and spent the majority of his teaching and coaching career at Wentworth High School, serving both the men and women’s basketball teams. He was a longtime and faithful member of Woodmont United Methodist Church. During his younger years, Jack participated in basketball, baseball and fast pitch softball. In his later years, he was an avid sports enthusiast including collecting baseball cards and attending spring training in Florida. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Coleman Phillips and his brother, Joe Phillips.
He is survived by his son, Sam Phillips and wife, Teresa; his grandson, Jack Phillips all of Reidsville; his brother, Don Phillips and wife, Patsy of Greensboro; his sister-in-law, Joyce Phillips of Myrtle Beach, SC; his brother-in-law, Bobby Coleman and wife, Patty of Reidsville; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
