Madison – Pastor James Freddy Carter, 62, of 410 Crowder Road, died on Monday, March 7, 2011, at his home.Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, March 11, 2011, at Straightway House of Prayer with Pastor Thomas Carter officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.Mr. Carter was born in Rockingham County and was the son of the late Willis and Lucy Griffin Carter. He was the Pastor of Straightway House of Prayer and served as a missionary for over 41 years. Over the many years of missionary service, he ministered in Africa, Haiti, Egypt, India, Romania and many other countries. He was known for his selfless spirit and big heart. His courage, strength and integrity exemplified his understanding of the Gospel. Mr. Carter was also the owner and operator of James F. Carter Grading. Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by his brother, Donald Carter.He is survived by his wife, Amanda Stephenson Carter of the home; his sons, Nathan Carter and wife, Venus of Reidsville and James Bryant Carter and wife, Regina of Cascade, VA; his daughters, Nadra Carter Newman of Danville, VA, Joyce Carter Ellis and Ola Carter Shore and husband, Stephen all of Reidsville; his grandchildren, Daniel Smothers,, David Smothers and wife, Shannon and Timothy Smothers and wife, Kayla, Pamela, Samantha, Luke and Donald Carter, Autumn and Hunter Carter, Douglas and Sarah Shore, Aaron, Kaitlyn and Noah Ellis, Holly Kercher and Caroline Corum; great grandchildren, Kinley Smothers, Mason Smothers and Elijah Smothers; brothers, O’dell Carter and wife, Nancy, Robert Carter and wife, Bernice, Thomas Carter and wife, Francis, Charles Carter and wife, Donita, Steve Carter and wife, Donna and Mike Carter; his sister, Jane Watkins and numerous nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends, 7:00 – 9:00 PM, Thursday evening at Straightway House of Prayer and other times at the home.Memorial contributions may be made to Straightway House of Prayer, 410 Crowder Road, Madison, NC 27025.
