James Webster Denny

James Webster Denny, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 6, 2023.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, June 9, 2023, at Evergreen Memory Gardens with Rev. Rudy Woods officiating.

James was born on January 7, 1939, in Rockingham County to the late Horace and Edna Wall Denny. He was a devoted husband for 62 years and he and his wife loved to travel, especially to the mountains. James loved being a grandfather and great-grandfather, but more than anything he loved his Lord and was an Ordained Minister. He was the music director and deacon at Lawsonville Road Baptist Church and later attended Oasis Baptist Church. James was passionate about Gospel music and was known for his strong will and his strong moral compass. He will be remembered for his sweet kind smile and his integrity.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Maude Denny; sisters, Loretta Faye Fain and Jennie Sue Baynes.

He is survived by his sons, James “Jay” Norman Denny and wife Cheryl, Gary Dean Denny; granddaughter, Jamie Denny Nosek and husband Tyler; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth James Nosek; sister-in-law, Ruby Echols; beloved friends, Genell Garland, Brenda Strader; Mr. and Mrs. David Styons; in addition to special neighbors and friends who brought food and comfort to him over the last several years.
