Ruffin - James E. “Jocko” Dickerson – 69, of 717 Dickerson Road died on Sunday, October 21, 2012 Hospice Home of Rockingham County. A Graveside service will be held at Happy Home Congregational Christian Church Cemetery on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Bruce McBride officiating. Military graveside rites will be performed by the Rockingham County Honor Guard. Mr. Dickerson was a native of Rockingham County and was the son of late Jimmy Lee and Nannie Carter Dickerson. He was an electrician for the American Tobacco Company. He was of the Christian faith. Jocko served his country proud in the United States Navy. He enjoyed antique cars, traveling, and attending the state fair every year and working on his farm. He loved his family and especially his loving wife of 23 years. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his half-brother, John McCollum. He is survived by his beloved wife, JoAnn Dickerson of the home; children, Billy Joe Penn of Ruffin, Louis Penn and wife, Toni of Reidsville, Tommy Penn, Sr. and wife, Sandy of Ruffin; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Joe McCollum of Bethany and a large extended family The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at his home.
