James Carr Early

James Carr Early passed away peacefully October 12th, at Morehead Nursing Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 PM on Sunday, October 15th, 2017 at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. He was born February 24, 1927 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, to Cabel Early and Josie Foulkes Early. Jim lived most of his life in Reidsville and retired from American Tobacco Co. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1956. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Dorothy Allen Early. Also surviving are children, Debra Early Butler and husband Butch, of Blowing Rock, and Jason Keith Early and wife Micki, of Boone. His children and grandchildren, Brent Butler of Greensboro, and Maggie Butler of Asheville, are left with wonderful memories of their precious "Pop". Jim is also survived by his step-grandson, Davis Speed, his sister, Frances E. Worsham Fair, and many nieces and nephews, whom he adored. He was predeceased by his parents, and siblings Evelyn E. Berger, Rebecca E. Perkins, Kitty E. Milam, Josie E. Williams Fowlkes, Carter E. McKinney, Cabel Early, Paul Early, Mary E. Pryor, and W.R. Early. Also to cherish his memory are special friends at Morehead Nursing Center, who were a second family to him. Jim will be remembered for his kindness and love of family and friends.
