Reidsville – James Irvin Jones, 93, of 2450 Sandy Cross Road, died Thursday, April 9, 2009 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Sharon Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Brown and Rev. Vincent Wall officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery and the pallbearers will be Tommy Jones, Doug Jones, Kenny Jones, Steve Mason, Buddy King, Worley King, John Isley and Gene Small. The honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Carter, Monroe Isley, David Miller, Clay Barham, Tim Lemons, Cecil Isley, John Moore, Mike Fargis and the Deacons of Sharon Baptist Church.
Mr. Jones was born in Rockingham County to the late John W. and Lucy Lavina Moore King Jones. He was a retired tobacco farmer and was recognized as the “Conservation Farmer of the Year”. He was a longtime and faithful member of Sharon Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and on various committees for the church. He was a member of the Men’s and Ladies’ #1 Sunday School Class. He was a committed and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Dolly Chambers Jones; his brothers, Rubert Jones and Johnny Jones; his half brothers, Bill King and Abner King; his sister, Mary J. Lewey and his half sister, Emma K. Smith.
He is survived by his children, Irvene Jones Stone and husband, Paul and James Donald Jones, Sr. and wife, Pat all of Reidsville; his grandchildren, Keith Stone and wife, Sandra, Kim Stone, Donald Jones, Jr. and wife, Sharon, Derek Jones and Dana Apple and husband, Ross; great grandchildren, Meredith Jones, Michael Jones, Dylan Apple, Darla Apple, April Rakestraw and husband, Brian and Renee Miller; his great-great grandchildren, Garrett and Gauge Rakestraw; brothers, Raymond Jones and Grady Jones and wife, Vernell all of Reidsville and Bobby Jones and wife, Jerri of Graham; his sister, Lucy J. Mason and husband, Eugene of Reidsville; his sister-in-law, Reavely C. DuBreuil of Greensboro; numerous nieces and nephews and special friend, Velma Hall of Reidsville. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Karen Meeks at the Penn Center, Dr. Patrick Wright, Daisy Purgason and the senior citizens at the Bethany Nutrition Site.
The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Saturday, April 11, from 6-8 PM and other times at the residence.
