James Abner King III

James Abner King III, 69, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024, surrounded by his family.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Sharon Baptist Church with Pastor David Lineback officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall after the service and other times at the home of his daughter.

James was born in Rockingham County to the late James King Jr and Frances Washburn King. He was raised and worked on the family dairy farm until he went to work as a welder with the Boilermakers. He loved to fish with his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching Football, NASCAR and listening to Rock and Roll. In his “retirement” he returned to his farming roots and farmed acres and acres of corn for the Wrights. During his battle with cancer, he would spend the summers at the beach with his grandchildren making lasting memories. Most of all he loved his family he will be greatly missed.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Susan Crosbie King; daughter, Julie Beth King and son, James Ryan King.

James is survived by his daughter, Jennifer King Thompson (Hank); grandchildren, Kelsey, Kayden, Breanna, and Emily; great granddaughter, Rhiannon; stepchildren, Kristin Somers; Kenna Lucas; step-grandchildren, Bray, Kamden, Kaylen, Kolten, Riggs; siblings, Donna Herndon and Teresa Branch along with numerous nieces, nephews and a large and loving group of extended family and friends.
