James Melvin Minor

It is with peaceful hearts that we announce the passing of James Melvin Minor, 84, of Reidsville. He went home to be with the Lord on January 13, 2025, while at home surrounded by those he loved.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Spirit and Truth Baptist Church in Elon, NC with Rev. Petty officiating. A graveside committal will follow the church service in the Spirit and Truth Baptist Church Cemetery and the family will receive friends afterward in the sanctuary.

James was born on Milesville Road in Caswell County, NC to the late Willie Minor and Laura Terrell Minor. He learned the value of hard work on the family farm. James fondly recalled his school years and was a proud graduate of Anderson High School’s Class of 1959. Upon graduation, James entered the workforce at Copland Fabrics, Inc, where he was a valued dependable employee for 43 years. He was known for his strength and many referred to him as “Big Jim”. James was a beloved husband, father and cherished Paw Paw. His grandchildren were the “apple of his eye”.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Nellie Minor; an infant sister; brothers, Ernest (Pauline) Minor, Edgar and Earl Minor.

James is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Bobbie Jean Minor. After a life-threatening surgery in February of 2024 and a short Rehab stay, she was able to bring him home to care for him before his passing. He is also survived by his son, James Keith Minor (Tonya Carter); daughter, Jennifer (Michael) Petty; grandchildren, Taylor Petty, Sadie (Seth) Lambert, Colby Petty, Lana Petty and Mollie Petty; brother, Bobby (Maxine) Minor; sisters, Loraine Wrenn and Margaret Hooper; sisters-in-law, Susie Garner and Margaret Ann Minor along with numerous nieces, nephews and a large extended family.

 A special thank you to Colby and Lana for the selfless care they have given their pawpaw over the past few years.
