James Richard Scott

Reidsville – James Richard Scott, Sr., 84, of 171 Roberson Lane passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the Rockingham County Hospice Home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, October 15, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Ron Boswell officiating. The interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Scott was born in Rockingham County to the late Otha and Byrd Goad Scott. He was a veteran of the US Navy and was retired from the American Tobacco Company with over 38 years of service. He was a former member of Osborne Baptist Church and currently a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Richard was a family man first, always considering the needs of his family and he especially loved his grandsons. With patience and precision, he kept things in perfect shape around the house and in everthing else. Mr. Scott was an excellent teacher and loved serving and helping others. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandson, Mike Scott. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Elizabeth “Lib” Matthews Scott of the home; his son, Jim Scott and wife, Rachel of Reidsville; his grandson, Tyler Scott; his great grandchildren, Jacob Michael Scott and Kamryn Scott; his granddaughter-in-law, Nicole Scott; his brothers, George Scott and wife, Zelma of Stoneville and Buford Scott and wife, Ruth of Ruffin and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 14 at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and other times at his home.
