James Thomas Williams

Reidsville – James Thomas Williams, 84, of 1920 Belmont Drive, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2012 after a short stay at Avante at Reidsville and several years of failing health. Memorial services will be held 3:00 PM on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Douglas McLeroy officiating. The family will see friends following the service. Tom was born on September 12, 1928 in Rockingham County, the only child of James Thomas Williams, Sr. and Lucy Duncan Williams, who both passed away when Tom was young. He was then raised by his aunt, the late Mrs. Minnie Gammon of the Bethlehem community. Tom worked for a number of years for the Bank of Reidsville. In 1965 he founded Commercial Discount Corporation where he served as President and consumer finance officer. He was a former member of the Rotary Club and a founder and past President of Remmsco, Inc. He formerly served on the board of directors of Rockingham County Mental Health. He was a former member of the Reidsville Jaycees, once chosen as their Young Man of the Year for his civic contributions. Tom was a long time member of the Wolfpack Club and was an especially strong supporter of NC State basketball. For many years he enjoyed serious croquet games with good friends on the weekends. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Shirley Thornton Williams; daughters, Ann W. Hauser and husband, Mark of Burlington and Susan W. Buckner and husband, Keven of Belews Creek; son, David Thomas Williams of Silverdale, Washington; a step son, David J. Pierce, Jr. and wife, Rita of Roanoke, Va.; three granddaughters, Catherine H. Mills and husband, Patrick, Rebeca H. Hurdle and husband, Robbie all of Burlington and Erin Marie Williams of Silverdale, Washington and three great grandchildren, Madison and Trent Mills and Ann Elizabeth Hurdle of Burlington Memorials may be made to Remmsco, Inc. 108 N.
