Jay Wesley Lankford, 82, passed away at his home on Monday, December 23, 2024.
There will be a celebration of his life at a later date.
Jay was born in Rockingham County to the late, John Grady Lankford, Sr. and Ellen Carol Lankford. He had a very successful and long career as a farrier, shoeing his last horse at the age of 80. He was a multitalented individual and could fix or do just about anything he set his mind to. He was a blacksmith, leather-smith, great horseman and a true cowboy that shared his knowledge, vision, grace and humble generosity with others.
You cannot think of Jay without thinking of his beloved mules. He and his wife, Annette purchased property near Grayson Highlands State Park in Virginia, it was a place they shared with many people on weekends for riding and fun.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Annette Bradsher; son, Ricky Lankford and wife, Kim; grandson, Brody Lankford; sisters, Juanita Bennett, Sue Knight and Barbara Watts; special nephew, Dwayne Lankford and wife, Marsha; numerous nephews, nieces, and great nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Jack Lankford and John Lankford, Jr.; sisters, Sally Wall, Lucille Sands and Irene Fulp.
