Mrs. Jean Gray DeLancey Gooch, 80, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2010 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County. She was born in Reidsville, NC on March 10, 1930 to the late Florence K. and Irvin DeLancey.
Jean was a 1948 graduate of Reidsville High School where she was an active participant in student government. She was well regarded by both faculty and her many friends. While raising her family, Jean worked as secretary at Reidsville Senior High School before retiring as office manager for Trent Construction Company. She loved to read, garden and enjoyed traveling. When she was no longer able to travel, Jean especially enjoyed dining out and going to a movie.
Jean was an active member of the Reidsville Junior Service League and the Reidsville Womens Club. She contributed much to the young people with whom she came in contact through her service as a Brownie/Girl Scout leader and Sunday school teacher. Jean was a member of Woodmont United Methodist Church. Jean leaves behind a legacy of kindness and concern for others that marked her life.
Jean is survived by her husband of 62 years, Benton N Gooch of the home; daughters Christie Gooch of Winston Salem, Debbie Gooch and husband, Stephen Zoufaly, of Deep Gap.
Visitors are welcome at the home.
There will be a brief memorial service at Woodmont United Methodist Church, 1926 Richardson Drive in Reidsville on Wednesday, October 27 at 1:00PM.
