Reidsville: Jerry Lee Soyars, 68, of 161 Adams Rd., passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Dr. Beau Cooksey officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens.
Jerry was born on October 16, 1947, in Rockingham County, to the late Russell Harden and Blanch Trent Soyars. He grew up farming with his parents in Rockingham County in the Lawsonville Road area. He graduated from Reidsville High School in 1966. He retired from Harris-Teeter as the Produce Manager. He also raised hogs, grew tobacco and had a garden full of vegetables with his brother, Johnny. He loved to watch baseball, especially the New York Yankees. He was a loving father, grandfather and brother.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, David Soyars and his wife Shirley, Robert Soyars, Donald Soyars and William Soyars.
Survivors include his son, Tony H. Soyars; his granddaughter, Kelsey M. Soyars; the mother of his son, Susan P. Soyars; his brother, Johnny “Red” Soyars; his sister, Diane Soyars; his sisters-in-law, Rena Soyars and Eunice Soyars; several nieces and nephews, and special caregivers, Sophie Mullins and Michelle Williams.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6-8 P.M., Monday, April 11, 2016, at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home of Diane Soyars, 3328 US Highway 158.
