Jewell Kay Thiel Troxler age 84 of Water Works Road, Reidsville died on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at her home surrounded by loving family.
Born in Davie County on July 7, 1939, she is the daughter of the late James E Fleming and Melverine Boger Thiel. A 1957 graduate of Yokohama American Elementary/High School, Yokohama, Japan, an American Government School for Service Children and civil servants. While attending, she was the art Director for the yearbook staff and was able to tour a silk factory to choose the cover for the yearbook. Mrs. Troxler kept up with her classmates throughout the years at reunions across the country. When she returned to the US she became a Technical Illustrator for Western Electric in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. While in Winston Salem, her pastor set her up on a blind date with his Coast Guard buddy, David Troxler. Four months later they were married. After moving to Reidsville, she then became a farmer’s wife and homemaker. During the farming years, she was a member of the North Carolina Women’s Porkette’s Association and served one term as President. She was a member of Evangelical Methodist Church in Reidsville NC and loved her time as a Sunday School Teacher to the teenage youth group. She also established/created the Chrismon tree and ornaments, a tradition that continues every Christmas. Throughout the years she took on many roles outside the home as well, including co-owner/manager Purina Bulk Feed Station, sales associate at several retail establishments, but she considered her proudest accomplishment when she went back to obtain her Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Arts at the age of 40 from Greensboro Technical Community College. After which, she became a graphic artist for Belk Department Stores, advertising department where she retired from. After retirement, she had time to create the Hummingbird Bakery and make many of her famous cakes and bakery items which were sold by special order. Throughout the years, she has been a teacher and mentor to many for her numerous talents which include art and baking. She created fond memories for lots of the local children as she held summer day camps for arts, crafts, baking, and cooking.
Mrs. Troxler is survived by her children Russell Troxler (Patty) Reidsville, Anna Troxler, a High Point NC, Emily (Ben) Hamilton Reidsville; grandchildren, twins, David Troxler and Matthew Troxler (Tasha) and great grandchildren Stetson Troxler, Grayce and Hudson Pruitt. Her sister, Pamela Pandella, Water Island, USVI; niece, Oona Davis (Michael) and great nephew, Wyatt Davis. She loved all of her Troxler nieces and nephews as well as extended family members, and so many friends.
Mrs. Troxler was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, David Thomas Troxler, daughter, Lisa Troxler Chmielewski, her parents, James E Fleming, and Melerine, Boger Thiel.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 19th, at 3:00 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be conducted by Dr. Terry Lawson, Pastor of New Heights Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Saturday, November 18th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and other times at the home on Water Works Road.
