Browns Summit: Jimmy Moore Hopkins, 84, of 7541 Friendship Church Road, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, July 26, 2013 at his home.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, July 29, 2013 at Monticello United Church of Christ with Rev. Gary Owens officiating. The burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park in Greensboro.
Jimmy was born in Guilford County to the late William and Evelyn Moore Hopkins. He served as a veteran in the US National Guard. His career included a lifetime of farming tobacco and he was also the co-owner/operator of Piedmont Warehouse. He was a member of Monticello United Church of Christ. He was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman but his main priority and passion was his family, especially his grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Diane Young Hopkins; and his brothers, Edward and David Hopkins.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Peggy Lambeth Gunn Hopkins of the home; his children, Bryan Hopkins of Winston-Salem, NC, Ann Paquette and husband, Michael, Joe Hopkins and wife, Lisa and Betsy Smith all of Browns Summit; grandchildren, Shana Graham and husband, Devon, Lauren McMillan and husband, Michael, Chelsea and Cassidy Smith; his step children, Greg Gunn and wife, Nanci, June Kemp and husband, Gene, Ann Puckett and husband, Chris, Kay Gunn and Susan Miles; step grandchildren, Katy and Adam Kemp, Rachel and Rebecca Puckett and Quinn Gunn-Miles; brother, William L. Hopkins of Burlington; and numerous nieces, nephews, a large extended family and many, many close friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
