Summerfield- Joe P. McCollum, 82, of 6859 NC Hwy 65, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Moses Cone Hospital. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday August 6, 2014, at Bethany United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Angela Rogers Marlowe and Rev. Jim Raines officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery will military honors. Joe was born on March 13, 1932, in Rockingham County to the late Robert Lee and Nannie Pearl Carter McCollum. He married Becky Miles on April 9, 1955. They were married for 53 wonderful years. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. He worked as a farmer and for American Tobacco for many years. He enjoyed woodworking and his fish pond. Along with his wife and his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, John McCollum and James Dickerson and his half sister, Paula McCollum. Survivors include his daughters, Marisa Jo McCollum and Nancy McCollum Conner and husband Wes; his son, Danny McCollum and wife Debbie and his grandchildren, Brandon Wesley Conner, Jeremy Daniel McCollum and Caitlin Conner Underhill. There will be a formal visitation from 6-8 PM, on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at Danny’s home, 6277 NC Hwy 65, Reidsville. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County.
