John Wayne DeLancey

John Wayne DeLancey, 68, suddenly left this life at his home, to be with His Lord on Sunday, November 28, 2021.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 3, 2021 at New Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Terry Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 2nd at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and other times at 1703 Perkinson Road, Ruffin, NC.

“Johnny” was born in Rockingham County to the late Earl Rayne DeLancey, Sr. and Naomi Slaughter DeLancey. He began his lifelong career at UNIFI when he was 17 years old, a job he still held as a Technician in Research and Development. He joined New Heights Baptist Church in 1970 and was very active in Sunday School, the church softball league and participated in multiple activities and functions. He was an avid movie and trivia buff and could quote many movie lines. John loved his family, Duke Basketball and traveling.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl DeLancey, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cynthia Collins DeLancey; son, Bradley DeLancey and wife, Kelly; brother, Michael DeLancey and wife, Tina; sisters, Doris Little; Karen Bahr and husband, Bill; Joyce Parrish and husband, John; nephews, Robert, Stephen, Hank, Dylan and Logan; godchildren: Sadie, Casey and Bubba.
