John W. "Byrd" Mason

Reidsville-Mr. John W. “Byrd” Mason, 79, of Blumenthal Nursing Center and formerly of Reidsville, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Wesley Long Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 in Wilkerson Funeral Home. Rev. Tommy Puryear will officiate. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Mr. Mason was born on March 23, 1937 in Rockingham County to the late John Walker Mason, Sr. and Lillie Duncan Mason. He was a retired electrician with Starr Electric in Greensboro and a member of Penn Memorial Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mozelle Garrell. Survivors include his wife, Alice Mason of Reidsville; one son, Jonathan Mason and wife, Anita of Summerfield; two grandchildren, Taylor and Christopher Mason; two sisters-in-law, Margaret C. Pruitt of Reidsville and Gladys Walker of Summerfield; a special nephew, Richard Garrell. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 11, 2016 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home and other times at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Gladys Walker.
