Mr. John Mitchell Slocum, III, 66, of Greensboro, passed away on Thursday, March 2nd, 2017 at his home.
A memorial service will be held at eleven o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, March 8th, 2017 at Wilkerson Funeral Home, 1909 Richardson Drive, Reidsville, North Carolina 27320. The Reverend Morris Brown will officiate. A reception will begin at four o’clock in the afternoon at Pinewood Country Club, 247 Pinewood Road, Asheboro, North Carolina 27205.
The son of the late John Mitchell, Jr. and Dorothy Louise McCain Slocum, John was born in Los Angeles, California on September 27th, 1950. He was the son of a United States Army Colonel, John grew up all over the United States and traveled extensively in Europe. He attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. John worked with Stedman Corporation in Asheboro and Sara Lee Corporation in Winston-Salem. He later was Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice-President of Factory Stores of America in Smithfield. He retired to Wrightsville Beach and Greensboro. John regularly attended Woodmont United Methodist Church in Reidsville.
John is survived by his fiancé, Renee Everhart of Reidsville; his two daughters, Lauren Slocum Thompson and her husband, Charles Bennett Thompson of Charlotte; Meredith Slocum McCauley and her husband, Adam Reid McCauley of Katy, Texas; five grandchildren, Louise Drouillard Thompson, John Clay McCauley, Mary Fields Thompson, Jack Reid McCauley and Simms Claire McCauley; his brother, Robert Scott (Bob) Slocum and wife Debbie of Macclenny, Florida; one niece and one nephew.
