Reidsville - John Lewis Warner, 80, of 381 Lindsey Road, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at his home.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, June 3, 2012 at First Congregational Christian Church with his son, Cress Warner and Rev. Melvin "Crip" Hall officiating. The burial will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery with Military graveside rites.Mr. Warner was born in Tampa, FL to the late, Cressent E. and Thelma Gammon Warner. He was a veteran in the US Marine Corps serving during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Southern Bell after 32 years of service and served as pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Milton, NC for over 25 years. Prior to serving as pastor, Mr. Warner was a longtime member of First Congregational Christian Church, where he later founded the "In His Name Christian Service" food pantry at the church. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His faith was evident in every aspect of his life €¦in other words, "He practiced what he preached." He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty "Peggy" McClintock Warner of the home; his sons, John C. "Cress" Warner and wife, Cindy and Tim Warner all of Reidsville; his grandchildren, Kerry Cable and husband, Taft, Marianne Morgan and husband, Matt, Chandler Warner, Jacob Warner and wife, Jordan and Zachary Warner; his great grandchildren, Ally and Carly Morgan and Aydan Cable.The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Saturday, June 2 at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at Tim's home (297 Pintail Drive off of McCoy Road).Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375 or "In His Name Christian Service" of Congregational Christian Church, 1863 South Park Drive, Reidsville, NC 27320.
