Johnnie William Johnson

Reidsville – Johnnie William Johnson, 90, formerly of 499 Sandy Cross Road, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Annie Penn Hospital. Graveside funeral services with military graveside rites will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, November 24, 2008 at Reidlawn Cemetery with Rev. Grover Holder officiating. Mr. Johnson was born in Rockingham County to the late James Johnson and Eddie Case Johnson. He retired from Reidsville Furniture Company and was a former member of Williams Memorial Freewill Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in WWII. Johnnie was an avid gardener and outdoorsman, he served as a lay preacher and taught Sunday school at nursing homes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Dickens Johnson; son, Douglas Lee Johnson; brothers, James Hunter and James Weldon Johnson. He is survived by his son, Roger Johnson and wife, Norma of Reidsville; daughters, Shirley Johnson Strader, Carolyn Johnson Wilson and husband, Lonnie, all of Reidsville; grandchildren, Melissa Strader, Brian Lee Wilson, Ashley Johnson, Dana Dark and husband, Daniel; great grandchildren, Lyndsey and Skyler Dark.
