Joseph Elwood Southard

Joseph “Joe” Elwood Southard, 80, passed peacefully on Friday, November 20, 2020.

A funeral service will be held at 3P.M. on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Woods officiating. The committal will follow at Evergreen Memory Garden. The family will be available starting at 2P.M.

Joe was born in Rockingham County to the late Hugh William Southard and Lillie Ethel Rakes Southard. He was a member of Reidsville Free Will Baptist Church. He was a carpenter for many years and loved working with his hands. He could often be found hunting, golfing, bowling or in his later years, watching old John Wayne and Charlie Chaplain movies. He had a love for NASCAR and Fords. Most of all he loved his family. Papa Southard’s infectious laugh will be missed by all who were able to attend Sunday family dinners.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Jane and Myrtle; brothers, Bill, John, Leonard, Albert along with two grandsons, Joseph and Joshua.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Joanne Miller Southard; son, Billy Joe Southard (Lesa); daughters, Teresa Anders (Jeffrey), Shelia Daniels (Keith), Tammy Shelton (Mike); grandchildren, Garon, Jenny, Jesse, Kim, Crissy, Bobby, Shelly, Rebecca, Kirk, and Kyle; 17 great grandchildren; Brother, Kenneth and sister, Donna along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Reidsville Free Will Baptist Church at 878 Miller Chapel Road, Reidsville, NC 27320.
