Josie Scearce Powell

Ruffin – Josie Scearce Powell, 95, of 6630 NC 700, died Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 11, 2008 at Happy Home Congregational Christian Church with Pastor Bruce McBride and Pastor Keith Carroll officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kenny Walker, Daryl, Danny, Don, Jim and Mike Powell, honorary pallbearers are Tim Allen, William Setliff, Dillard Powell, Roger Blackwell and Wayne Gilley. Mrs. Powell was born in Rockingham County to the late Dorsey and Hattie Ellington Scearce. She was a homemaker, a Farmer and a Wonderful, loving mother. She was a member of Happy Home Congregational Christian Church and was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, James Marvin Powell, 10 brothers and sisters. Mrs. Powell is survived by her children, James Powell, Elaine Hopkins and husband, Jimmy, Jerry Powell and wife, Theresa, all of Ruffin; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Happy Home Congregational Christian Church on Thursday, January 10th     from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and other times at the residence.
