Brown Summit: Kathleen Chrismon Bowman, 87, residing at 118 Alamance Road, Burlington, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the Select Specialty Hospital of Greensboro.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm on Friday, October 16, 2015 at Gethsemane United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Angela Marlowe and Rev. A.C. Brock officiating. The interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday from 1-2 PM at the church.
Kathleen was a native of Brown Summit and was the daughter of the late Jennings Bryant and Ollie Huffines Chrismon. She attended Monticello High School and Elon College. She began her career working for the vice president of Sears and Roebuck Co. and helped with her maternal family. She met and later married Edward Bowman in 1955 and raised their family together. Their marriage of over 48 years was a testament to their relationship as a couple.
While raising her children, she was employed with J.T. Bowman Grocery and later Kayser-Roth Corporation in the accounts receivable department where she retired. She was a longtime and faithful member of Gethsemane United Methodist Church and was also affiliated with Apple’s Chapel Christian Church for many years. She participated in children and youth education activities.
She was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister and friend. She was humbled by her experiences in life and travel. She was meticulous to detail. Kathleen was a gifted seamstress and cook, and enjoyed being with family and friends. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Bowman; her daughter-in-law, Kay Lynch Bowman; her brother, Lewis Randall Chrismon; her sisters-in-law, Jean Bowman and Lois Busick; and her brother-in-law, J.W. Busick.
She is survived by her son, Darwin Edward Bowman of Bothell, WA; her daughter, Cynthia Bowman Martin and husband, Jim of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, John Martin, Kailyn Bowman and Nathaniel Bowman; sister, LaVisa Chrismon Walker of Reidsville, NC; sister-in-law, Velma Powell Chrismon of Brown Summit, NC; brother-in-law, James “J.T.” Bowman, Jr. and wife, Nancy of Ayden, NC and numerous nieces and nephews.
