Kayla Hope Steffey
Our Unicorn Mermaid,
Kayla Hope Steffey, went home to be with the Lord on June 20th, 2024.
Hope was born May 16, 2009, in High Point, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Natalie Ann Norman and Shon Steffey. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her older brothers: Blaze Norman and Drake Steffey, her grandparents: Robert and Leslie Norman, and Eddie Duty; her aunts Amy, Louise, and Jen; uncles Barry, Robert Jr., and Brian; and many, many more loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her great grandmother Rita Whary; grandmother Deb Duty; and her aunt Sherry Hall.
Kayla Hope was the definition of a true warrior! Plain and simple. At the age of five she was diagnosed with a rare gene disorder called metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD). BUT this did not define Hope, because she was so much more than that! She was a sassy, fierce princess who never lost her sparkle. Her laugh was especially contagious with a smile brighter than the sun. You’d always find Hope right next to her momma. From singing American Honey to watching “Stepbrothers” for the millionth time, it was always just the two of them. From the moment she was born, Hope and her momma had a connection. Even when Hope lost her ability to speak, her momma could look into her eyes and share endless conversations. Just a simple look between the two held a thousand words. They were true soul mates.
Hope also adored her two older brothers, they were her ultimate protection, and she was the apple of her daddy’s eye! She loved being surrounded by family. It brought her calmness. And even though her precious life was spent fighting, she never gave up; she always stayed our Hope🖤
