Landon Shields “Bob” Mays, 83, of 2311 Grooms Road, passed away quietly at his home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, February 28, 2016.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Lawsonville Road Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Tuck, Rev. Garfield Doss and Rev. Tripp Kimbrough officiating.
Bob was born in Java, Virginia to the late John Shields and Sallie Myrtle Oakes Mays and was a retiree of Bur-Mil Park and enjoyed working on his farm. He was a member of Lawsonville Road Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, trustee and an usher. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Elsie Eaton, Bertha Cook, Linda Manley, Ruth Smith and Aleese Comer and brother, Gilbert Mays.
Survivors include Betty Paschal Mays, his wife of 64 yrs.; sons, Landon E.”Gene” Mays and Michael Mays and wife, Dalphene; daughter, Phyllis Norman and husband, Bill; grandchildren, Milicent Mays Hooper and husband, David, Michaela Mays and Ethan Mays; great grandson, Braedyn Hooper and future great granddaughter, Avery Blair Hooper expected in March; sister, Erma Pruitt and husband, Jack.
The family will see friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM at Lawsonville Road Baptist Church and other times at the home.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Rockingham County for the care given to Bob during his illness.
