Reidsville- Larry Wayne Carter, 69, of 1036 Garrison Road, passed away peacefully into his heavenly home early Sunday morning November 24, 2013 surrounded by his loving and devoted family. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Piedmont Baptist Church with Rev. Duane King and Rev. Wayne Smithey officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Wayne was born in Stokes County April 4, 1944 but had lived in Rockingham County most of his life. He was born to the late Charlie and Nannie Lester Carter and retired from Morrisette Paper Company in 2009 where he worked as a maintenance mechanic. Prior to this he worked 21 years for Wysong as a machinist. He was a faithful member of Piedmont Baptist Church and a devout Christian servant previously serving as a deacon at Bible Baptist Church. He fought a courageous battle with cancer never losing his faith in God’s will. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Robert, Bill, Ralph and Steve Carter and sisters, Belle Kobernat and Doris Bowlin. Survivors include his loving wife, of 47 years, LaVerne Gerringer Carter; sons, David Carter and wife, Sandy of Reidsville and Daryl Carter and wife, Rachel of Conover; daughter, Lisa Carter Sparks of Greensboro; four grandsons, Cody, Josh, Jack and Jude; sisters, Margie Brookshire of Charlottesville, Va., Jean Hodges and husband, Wilson, Helen Hodges and husband, Wilbur all of Reidsville and Brenda Lemmond and husband, Harry of Durham; mother-in-law, Mary Gerringer Smith of Reidsville; sister-in-law, Erma Carter of Madison; brother-in-law, Gary Gerringer and daughter Brenda of Myrtle Beach, SC and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday, November 25, 2013 at Piedmont Baptist Church and other times at the home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Melanoma Foundation, 4150 Regents Park Row, Suite 300, La Jolla, CA. 92037or Arthritis Foundation, PO Box 96280, Washington, DC 20077-7491. Wilkerson Funeral Home is serving the Carter family.
