Our precious mother, wife, and sister, Laura Belle Starcher Kirk, left her earthly home on Friday, May 17, 2024. We find comfort in knowing we will see her again one day in Heaven.
Laura was born on July 3, 1949, to Lestal and Pallestine Starcher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Wayne and Bill Starcher, her sisters-in-law Sharon and Pat, and her brother-in-law Bobby.
Laura graduated from Ripley High School in West Virginia in 1967. She loved crafting, sewing, and making special blankets for her grandchildren every Christmas. Her home was always beautifully decorated, with a Christmas tree in every room. Laura cherished traveling back to her home state of West Virginia to visit and shop with her sisters Patti and Mary. She and Johnny also enjoyed riding their trike and spending time camping together. Laura welcomed everyone into her home with open arms.
Laura is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Johnny Kirk, who remained steadfastly by her side throughout her 2 1/2 year illness. A loving mother, she is also survived by her daughter Kim Shouse (Jacob) and her son Josh Kirk (Sherri). She is also survived by her brother Buster Starcher (Ruth Ann) and her sisters Patti Skeens (Kent), Mary Smith, and Ida Smith (Paul). Her grandchildren, who affectionately called her Maw-Maw, were each made to feel special by her. They are Corey Shouse (Olivia), Joshua Logan Kirk (Annslie), Austin Shouse (Cheyenne), and Nicolas Kirk. Laura also has a great-grandchild, Hudson James Shouse, who was born in January 2024.
The family would like to express their gratitude to her sisters, Patti and Mary, who came from West Virginia to stay by Laura's side during her final weeks. Special thanks also go to the Hospice workers, especially Carol Walker Vanderwerf, who provided daily care and comfort.
In accordance with Laura's wishes, she will be cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
