Wentworth – Lawrence Jennings Gunn, 95, of 238 Gunntown Road, died on Monday, May 13, 2013 after a short stay at Avante of Reidsville.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Wentworth United Methodist Church with Rev. Herb McClintick and Rev. Fred Moretz officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Lawrence was born in Rockingham County to the late Alvin E. Gunn and Nelle Burton Gunn. He received his Bachlelor of Agriculture from NC State University in 1948 and his Masters Degree in Agriculture in 1950. He was a vocational agriculture teacher starting his teaching career in Selma, NC for eleven years and then continued with the Rockingham County School System until his retirement in 1980. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps serving in WWII, a member of Wentworth United Methodist Church and an avid golfer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Walter and Ralph Gunn; sister, Edwina Gunn.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Julia H. Gunn of the home; sons, Brad Gunn and wife, Beth of Raleigh, NC, Lance H. Gunn and wife, JoLynn of Wentworth, NC; grandchildren, Cory, Jacob, and Landon Gunn; sister, Nelvin G. Reeves of Parkersburg, NC.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
