Reidsville- Mr. Colonel Lee Chilton, 89, passed away on Thursday, January 1st, 2015, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 3rd, 2015, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Robbie Powell officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military honors.
Mr. Chilton was born on March 16, 1925, in Rockingham County to the late John Artie and Annie Finney Chilton. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1955. He was a chef for the Moose Lodge and several restaurants in Rockingham County. He was also a farmer for many years in Rockingham County. He was a strong wise man who never met a stranger. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather.
Along with his wife and his parents, Mr. Chilton was preceded in death by four brothers, a daughter, Annie Chrisman and a son, Joseph C. Chilton.
Survivors include his children, Colonel Lee “Chico” Chilton, Jr. and Myra Chilton Wilson; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; his sister, Delcie Chilton Easter; numerous nieces and nephews and special friend, Elizabeth Toler.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 2nd, 2015, from 6-8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
