Reidsville: Lee Junior Martin, 90, of 813 Forest Street, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at the Hospice Home of Rockingham County.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, July 26, 2013 at New Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Harold Venable and Rev. Mike Chrismon officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The burial will follow in the Mayodan Municipal Cemetery.
Mr. Martin was born in Rockingham County to the late Avery and Nellie Hatcher Martin. He was a veteran in the US Air Force serving during WWII and was later retired from Gravely Clocks in Ridgeway, VA. He was a longtime and faithful member of New Heights Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a member of the choir. He loved his family, his church, gardening and music, especially playing the guitar. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Jewel Hall Martin and his infant daughter, Cynthia Lynn Martin.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Dorothy Gray Martin of the home; daughter, Judy Ann Martin and Jerry of Stoneville; step children, Dare Brown of Wentworth, Keith Brightwell and wife, Rita of Reidsville and Mary Wesley of Birmingham, AL; step grandchildren, Devin and Holt Cooper; brothers, Tony Martin and wife, Mary Ruth of Eden and Alton Martin and wife, Eloise of Stoneville; sisters, Lula Scott of Mayodan, Hazel Jones and husband, Bill of Winston-Salem and Gaynelle Vernon and husband, Willie of Summerfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Rockingham County, Advanced Home Health Care, Meals on Wheels and the Carolina Apothecary for the sincere and loving care they gave to Mr. Martin.
