Reidsville – Leonard E. “Shorty” Watkins, 86, formerly of 611 Maple Ave., died on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, March 11, 2011, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Curtis officiating. The burial will follow in the Reidlawn Cemetery.Mr. Watkins was born in Rockingham County and was the son of the late, George and Maggie Jones Watkins. He retired from Burlington Industries with over 30 years of service and was of the Baptist faith. His passion was blue grass music and he loved playing the banjo, gardening and watching World Wrestling Entertainment. Along with his parents, Mr. Watkins was also preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Mae Stanley Watkins; his sister, Mary Watkins Owen and brother, Everette Watkins. He is survived by his daughter, Rosie Edmunds and husband, Ron of Reidsville; his grandchildren, Latisha Madren, Vanna Madren Murphy and husband, Ben, Tanya Glass and Ryan Edmunds; brother, George A. Watkins and wife, Patti of Eden; sisters, Nancy A. Watkins of Stoneville and Virginia Watkins Fain of Reidsville; special nephew, Ronnie Fain and numerous other nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:00 PM, Thursday evening at Wilkerson Funeral Home.Memorial contributions may be made to Price United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 110 Meadow Brook Lane, Martinsville, VA 24112.
