Reidsville- Lillian Smothers Shelton, 93, of Reidsville, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM, Friday, August 26, 2011, at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Martin and Rev. Sandy Brown officiating. The burial will follow at Pleasantville Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Madison.Mrs. Shelton was born June 24, 1918, the youngest biological child of Maggie Carter and John Raine Smothers. Two more sons were added to the family through love. She was a member of the Mayodan Primitive Baptist Church. She loved her family and adored babies, regardless of their background or color. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her 11 brothers and sisters, the father of her children, Otis Shelton and her son-in-law, Donald Puckett. She is survived by her children, Irene Pruitt and husband, Wayne, Hazel Puckett and James Shelton and wife, Dot all of Reidsville; 5 grandchildren, David Pruitt, Teresa Bruno, Jennifer Puckett, Aaron Shelton, and Shannon Grillone (her caregiver); one step grandson; six great grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; one great-great grandson; two step great-great granddaughters; brother, Willie Smothers; and numerous nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends Thursday, August 25 at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 6-8 and other times at her residence, 1460 West Harrison Street.Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box, 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.
