Reidsville– Linda Riddle Koontz, April 27, 1908 - January 22, 2016
One of Rockingham County’s oldest residents passed away on Friday, January 22, 2016. Linda Riddle Koontz of Carolina House (Brookdale of Reidsville) was 107 years old. The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, January 30, 2016 with Grant Koontz and Shannon Newsome officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. The burial will follow the funeral service at Reidlawn Cemetery.
Linda was born in Rockingham County on April 27, 1908 to George Henry and Louella Aaron Riddle, the eighth of nine children. As a young woman, she worked as a supervisor in quality control at Fieldcrest Mills in Leaksville, now Eden. Linda married Walter Clifton Koontz in June of 1941 and was happily married for 54 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, her siblings, and her grandson, Jeremy Grant Koontz.
Linda’s many activities, apart from being a wife and mother, included a devoted, long time member of the Reidsville Christian Church. Her faith was an important part of her life. She taught Sunday school for 35 years and was a member of Circle #2. Linda was active in the Republican Women’s Club and the Rockingham County Extension Homemakers Club. She was a noted cook and baker for her family and friends. With a kind and compassionate heart, she was always willing to help others. Linda’s wit, humor, and famous sayings have created a lasting memory for her family.
Linda is survived by a son, Grant Aaron Koontz (Nancy) of Raleigh, and two daughters, Jane Koontz Campbell (Ken) of Greensboro, and Martha Koontz Powell (Stuart) of Holly Springs. She had nine grandchildren: David Arnold (Emily), April Koontz (Tammy), Suzanne A. Wayman (Tom), Stuart Powell, III (Lisa), Amy K. Haywood (Adam), Eric Arnold (Aleida), Mark Arnold (Sarah) and Amanda P. Hite (Jason). There are thirteen great-grandchildren. Linda had many special nieces and nephews. She was especially close to her nieces, Joan Young and the late Lucille Golden.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Brookdale of Reidsville, Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro and special thanks to Dr. Roy Fagan and his staff for their years of attention and devoted care for our mother.
