Reidsville: Lionel Wickerson Cooke, 93, formerly of 1802 Fairway Drive, died on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at the Hospice Home at Rockingham County A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Saint Thomas’ Episcopal Church at 1:30 PM with Rev. Vickie Smith officiating. Inurnment will follow at the church columbarium.Mr. Cooke, a native of Rockingham County, was the son of the late William Robertson and Ollie Eugenia Mangum Cooke. He was a member of the Saint Thomas’ Episcopal Church and served in World War II as a Sergeant First Class in Europe with General Patton and received the Silver Star. He was with the Civil Service, Department of Transportation, as an accountant with over 30 years of service. He attended the University of Richmond. In addition of his parents, he was preceded in death of his wife, Margaret Allison Cooke and one brother.He survived by his niece, Susan Josephson of Raleigh; nephew, Peter Josephson of Atlanta; cousin, Lillian Larson and her daughter, Robin Larson, both of Pompano Beach, Florida; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Josephson and her husband, John of Pinehurst, NC and special friend, Fern McCaston of Eden.The family will receive friends after the service.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Thomas’ Day School, 315 Lindsey Street, Reidsville, NC 27320
