Lorenzo Albert “Red” Chandler, Jr., 93, of 218 Spring Garden Road, Reidsville, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the Rockingham County Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Albert’s nephew, Pastor Danny Chatham and Pastor Sandy Brown officiating. The burial will follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens with Military honors. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at Beth’s home (218 Spring Garden Road, Reidsville).
Albert was born in Rockingham County to the late, Lorenzo Albert and Ollie Carroll Chandler. He served in the US Army during WWII. He worked for his uncle at Chandler Tire Company for several years, which led to the opportunity to work for M&M Rubber Company. He drove a taxi for Ed Meeks and later he retired from the Carolina Apothecary delivering prescriptions with over 37 years of service. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and he enjoyed watching old western movies. Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Trent Chandler; his son, Brentley Todd Chandler; his grandsons, Thomas Floyd Fretwell, II and Brice Edward Holliman; his brother, Bobby Chandler; his sister, Sarah Chatham.
He is survived by his daughters, Beth Holliman who was his faithful caregiver for 27 years and Cindy Martinez and husband, John; granddaughter, Melanie Thompson and husband, Kevin; 8 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and a large extended family.
