Lori Evans Lakey

Lori Evans Lakey "Gigi", 59, passed away on September 2, 2021 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. The family will receive friends in a memorial gathering at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Monday, October 18, 2021 from 6-8 PM.

Lori was born on September 25, 1961, in Rockingham County to the late Jack and Dorothy Evans.

She was a member of Westover Baptist Church in Danville, VA where she served on the praise team. Lori had a lovely voice and was often asked to sing at weddings, funerals, and other special events. Years ago she was asked to record a CD named "The Cornerstone".

Lori was always on the go and had a fun loving personality that served her well at her job at Community Baptist Schools, where she is affectionately known as Gigi. During her time at CBS Gigi worked as the Head of Housekeeping Services, the Head of Transportation and most recently the Cafeteria Manager. The children, parents and staff loved Gigi and she will be greatly missed there.

Lori is survived by her husband of 28 years, Stephen "Steve" Lakey; her daughter Ashley Mounce, husband JT; her son Evan Lakey; her grandson Jaxton Jones; brothers Randy Evans, and Rickie Evans; sister Denise Evans and their spouses along with neices and nephews.

Lori was loved by everyone she knew and will be greatly missed but family and friends take comfort that she is singing to Lord.
