The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at Covington Memorial Wesleyan Church. Burial will be at the family cemetery, Woodbine Baptist Church, in Manassas, Virginia on Friday, September 2, 2016.
Mrs. Haskins was born on July 2, 1937 in Dumfries, VA to the late Henry A. and Alma V. Carter. She graduated from Gar-Field High School, Woodbridge, VA in 1955. Louise was employed by the Federal Government at Ft. Belvoir, VA where she met the love of her life and husband of 55 years, Jesse F. Haskins. Louise and Jesse then moved to Reidsville, NC where she resided for the remainder of her life. She was a member of Covington Memorial Wesleyan Church and sang in the choir.
Mrs. Haskins was a dog lover and advocate, taking great pride in the work of the Rockingham County Humane Society where she volunteered for 10 years. She told many stories of rescues she participated in throughout the county. Louise devoted countless hours to researching her family genealogy. She did so without the benefit of a computer or internet travelling near and far visiting libraries, courthouses and cemeteries. As a result of her research, Mrs. Haskins has the distinct honor of being a member of both the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Greensboro-Guilford Chapter 301 and Daughter of the American Revolution, Guilford Battle-Greensboro Chapter. Her family is grateful for the rich history she documented and will pass this work of heart on to future generations.
In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her infant brother Stanley Ray Carter and her brother and sister-in-law, Daniel H. & Patricia B. Carter.
Survivors include her adoring husband, Jesse F. Haskins; brother, Ralph A. Carter and his wife, Eloise; nieces, Christine C. Greer and Jennifer C. Greer; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Willis; stepdaughter, Christine Haskins Vera (Hernan); stepsons, Jesse Haskins and Michael Haskins (Julie); step-grandchildren, Nicholas Vera (Rosemary), Emily Fritz (Matthew), Matthew Vera, Lily Day (Blake), Nicole Cooley (Mark), Stephanie Haskins and Adam Haskins; step great-grandchildren, Owen and Wyatt Cooley and numerous nieces and nephews.
Beloved wife, sister, Aunt Lou, Momma Lou, Grandma Lou and friend, Louise's sweet and loving spirit will be missed terribly by those she left behind.
