Lucinda (Cindy) Wimbish Shannon

Wentworth: Lucinda (Cindy) Wimbish Shannon, 73, of Wentworth, passed away July 7, 2015. Visitation will be held at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Reidsville, NC on July 9, 2015 from 6:00-8:00pm and other times at the home. Funeral service will be held at Woodbine Baptist Church in Mayodan, NC on Friday, July 10, at 11:00 am with Pastor Marty Brim officiating. Burial will follow at the Manteo Cemetery in Manteo, NC with a graveside service 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 11. Cindy was born in Winston-Salem, NC to Henry Blair Wimbish and Lorena Rakestraw Wimbish on January 4, 1942. She attended Wentworth High School and later obtained her nursing degree from Rockingham Community College. She worked as a pediatric nurse for 20 years with Moses Cone Hospital. She served on the Town of Wentworth Planning Board for 10 years and was active with several organizations in her community including Friends of the Chinqua Penn Walking Trail and the Museum and Archives of Rockingham County. She served as a precinct official Democrat judge. She also volunteered many hours each December with the WMU Toy Store. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, camping, hiking the Appalachian Trail and spending time with her family. Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, Henry Blair Wimbish and Lorena Rakestraw Wimbish and her brother, John Lee Wimbish. Cindy is survived by her husband, Roger Shannon; son, Lee Jones and wife, Hethur; son, Blair Jones; daughter, Tiffany Jones; 6 grandchildren and stepson, Roger Shannon and wife, Amber. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Friends of the Chinqua Penn Walking Trail or Audubon NC.
