Myrtle Beach: Mae S. Stewart, formerly of Reidsville, North Carolina, died Thursday, August 20, 2015, at Grand Strand Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
A Graveside service will be held at Evergreen Memory Gardens 11:00 AM, Monday, August 24, 2015 with Rev. Ron Tuck officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior, from 10:00 till 10:45 AM at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Stewart began her work career early at Dan River Mills and, later, retired from Cone Mills after many years of service. Although a delicate-appearing person, Mrs. Stewart knew the struggles and rewards of hard work and the joy of a strong faith. She attended Lawsonville Road Baptist Church and loved her church family. She was an avid gardener, accomplished seamstress and a homemaker of another time, canning and preserving foods and making many things we normally buy these days.
Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her husband, Willie K. Stewart; parents, Lawrence and Ida K. Soyars; sisters, Velma S. Saunders and Margaret Sams; and brother, Cecil Soyars. Surviving Mrs. Stewart are her sister, Ruth S. Page of Greensboro; nephews, Barry Frye of Greensboro and Alfred “Buddy” Brumfield of Loris, South Carolina; and nieces, Kay Hatcher of Greensboro and Tammy Rierson of Rockingham County.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lawsonville Road Baptist Church, PO Box 1584, Reidsville, NC 27320 and/or Heartland Hospice, 2411 N. Oak Street, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina 29577.
