Reidsville – Margaret McCollum Butler, 91, of 2618 Sandy Cross Road, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of her family on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at Wesley Long Community Hospital. A celebration of life will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Sharon Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery following the service. Mrs. Butler was a native of Rockingham County and was born to the late Artie Oscar and Cora Dixon McCollum. Margaret was of the Baptist faith and a member of Sharon Baptist Church where she was very active in the Women’s Missionary Group and the prayer chain. She was a devoted wife and homemaker where she filled her home full of love with her cooking, sewing and quilting. Mrs. Butler enjoyed serving in the Rockingham Homemaker’s Extension and spending her pastime in reading. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas S. Butler; sister, Dorothy Varner and brothers, David McCollum and Oscar McCollum. Margaret is survived by her sons, James “Jim” Irvin Butler and wife, Brona of Goldsboro, “Billy” Butler and wife, Patricia, Paul Butler and wife, Ivey all of Reidsville; daughter, Anne Rodgers and husband, John of Reidsville; grandchildren, Cory Butler and wife, Krystal, Allen Butler and wife, Jodi, Mary Rodgers Maynard and husband, Alfred, Suzanne Rogers, Julie Rodgers, Kevin Butler and Beverly Butler and great-grandchildren, Oliva and Allyssa Butler and Steven Maynard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (2- 3 pm) and at other times at the home.
